Bereavement Support
Ongoing grief counseling and support for the family for up to 13 months following the passing of a loved one.

Bereavement Support
The hospice journey does not end when a patient passes away. Grief is a deeply personal, unpredictable process, and families often need the most support in the weeks and months that follow a loss.
GLC Hospice provides comprehensive bereavement support to the family members and caregivers of our patients for up to 13 months following the patient's passing. This 13-month period ensures that families receive support through all of the difficult "firsts" — the first holidays, birthdays, and the anniversary of the loss.
Our bereavement program is led by trained counselors and social workers who offer a compassionate, listening ear and specialized guidance. Services may include one-on-one counseling, support groups, phone check-ins, educational materials about the grieving process, and memorial events. The level of support is tailored to each family member's unique needs and preferences — some families want frequent contact, while others prefer occasional check-ins or simply knowing the resource is available if they need it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is bereavement support required?
No, it is entirely optional. Some families find immense comfort in participating in support groups or receiving counseling, while others process their grief privately or with their own community. We will offer the support, and you can choose the level of involvement that feels right for you.
Is there a cost for bereavement services?
No. Bereavement support is a core component of the hospice benefit and is provided to the families of our patients at absolutely no additional cost.
Can children receive bereavement support?
Yes. Children and teenagers process grief very differently than adults. Our bereavement team can provide age-appropriate counseling, resources for parents on how to talk to children about death, and referrals to specialized pediatric grief programs if needed.
What if we need support after the 13 months have passed?
If a family member is continuing to struggle with complicated grief beyond the 13-month period, our social workers and bereavement counselors can help connect them with long-term counseling services, community support groups, and mental health professionals in the area.
